Ningbo University and the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Ningbo formed a highly qualified research team in 2009. The team achieved some domestically advanced and innovative research outcomes in optical, electronics and information functional materials fields. Some of the outcomes were applied and industrialized in Ningbo.

Ningbo High Technology Research Institute is based on the Ningbo New Functional Materials Key Lab supported by Ministry of Education and Zhejiang Province, and the Design and Produce Research Platform for Materials. The Institute will become the important platform for the cooperation between Ningbo University and the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Ningbo.

In the near future, the Institute aims to jointly build the national key lab for Materials and Engineering and to be the top level research base for Optical, Electronics and Information Functional Materials. The joint key lab will take the National and municipal key research projects to improve the capability of scientific and technological innovation, serving the locality, jointly fostering postgraduates and speeding up the process of highly qualified talents for science and technology.

It was reported that Ningbo was approved to set up the national industrial base for new materials in August, 2000. Presently, it has been created the uniqueness in the Magnet materials, Polymer materials and nano materials, which is also one of the significant part of Ningbo High technology industry.

The strategic cooperation between Ningbo University and the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Ningbo is great opportunity for the high education institutions and Chinese Academy of Sciences to advance the technology in new materials, which facilitated the restructuring and the model of development.
